Terrance Blanchard

Terrance Blanchard:

It is my distinct pleasure to be the artistic director of the Henry Mancini Institute at the University of Miami Frost School of Music. The Henry Mancini Institute is unique in the world.  It is an amazing opportunity for the next generation of musicians and I believe they will become important musical leaders in years to come.

While most know me as a jazz recording artist, my career has always spanned multi-genres. I know my experience will be valuable to those participating in the Institute today. I compose extensively for film and orchestra; my recent projects are in opera and theater.

I was born in New Orleans, and still reside there; the region informs and inspires my music.  I travel extensively and look forward to adopting Miami as my “home away from home.”  Miami is a cultural hot spot, and I will enjoy interacting with musicians from all over the globe who are equally inquisitive about the uplifting power of music and the joy it brings to others.

In addition to dynamic new concerts and recording sessions with students, I host a series of informal salons that I hope will serve as a catalyst for conversations about jazz, film, opera, theater, visual arts, and other art forms in the community. I look forward to seeing you at a Henry Mancini Institute event very soon.
